The trail crosses the Quehanna Highway and follows yellow blazes, past a left-hand turn, before reaching the first vista point. This hike begins at the Beaver Run parking area and heads east along Beaver Run Road (technically a trail) before reaching the Quehanna Highway. While this hike is very nice, there are plenty of other awesome hikes nearby This is one of the most popular day hikes in the Quehanna Wild Area and Note: this specific hike does not include the bisecting trail that connects both the Lincoln Loop to the Teaberry Loop however, we do include a point-of-interest on the map indicating where the bisecting trail junctions are. Sunday morning services are held in the chapel about once every three or four weeks. She was the wife of Doctor Noah Kincaid the first doctor in this part of Elk County. Also, on the grounds is the historic Kincaid Family Cemetery and the grave of Lydia Kincaid (January 1, 1841-age 62). Adding to the beautiful view and the sense of peacefulness, is an 11 feet tall wooden cross. The wrap around observation deck invites visitors to relax and enjoy the view. State of the art lighting showcases the incredible craftsmanship on display. John’s two Aunts created a stunningly beautiful stained-glass window and friends donated an antique bell which hangs by the entrance. The wooden pews and altar were made by local artisan Dave McCluskey. There are many unique and personal touches everywhere you look. The interior walls are made from hand hewn white pine grown in Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors region. The chapel is 20 X 24 feet and with a 25 feet tall steeple. “The Little Chapel in the Woods”, as many visitors love to call it, is perched on a ridge overlooking the lush Buttermilk Run Valley below. As a lasting tribute to John’s father, the Fred Bartholme Memorial Chapel was erected on the grounds of Medix Run Lodges. In 2003 John and his wife Liz purchased Medix Run Lodges in Benezette. The years passed, but his love for Pennsylvania’s wild elk country kept calling John to return. The days spent afield together with his father Fred in mountains and valleys fostered a deep love for the area within John. The beautiful Buttermilk Run Valley, in Elk County, was the site of many outdoor adventures when John Bartholme was growing up.
